William (Yi) Wei is the Director of IT of Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS) and the Executive Director of Harvard-MIT Data
Center (HMDC) at Harvard University. He oversees operations of IQSS IT and HMDC and works with the IQSS and HMDC director and
associate director to develop long-term strategic plans and to
establish operational policies. Dr. Wei's
responsibilities include finance and personnel
management (budgeting, hiring, coaching, retaining, team building, performance
reviewing, etc.). He also develops partnership with other Harvard and MIT IT support
groups, service providers, and outside contractors, to build best research, learning, and administrative support for the social science communities.
Dr. Wei came to HMDC in May, 1995, from the Data Coordinating Center of School of Public Health, Boston University, where he was a Senior Research Analyst and System Administrator. Before BU, he was a post-doctoral fellow at MIT after earning a Ph.D. in Marine Studies from University of Delaware
In addition to enjoying working with excellent colleagues, faculty, and students at Harvard, and being part of a great research and teaching institution, Dr. Wei is a father of two sons whom he and his wife are raising and learning from.
